Stay Put- Random & In the Theaters

It is a glorious day in NYC today and I hope you all are in equally beautiful surroundings.
Now let's get down to business.
(my camera battery was exhausted so I had to use my camera phone)

Whether you are relaxed or natural we all have hairs from time to time that just won't get with the program. Darcy's Botanicals has an all natural hand whipped pomade to keep your unruly strands in place. First of all this Coconut & Passionfruit pomade has a nice passion fruity scent. I know that scent description wasn't great but it smells less like coconuts and more like some exotic fruit concoction.
I had a work function to attend a few weeks ago and the fact that I didn't roll my hair the night before was kicking me in the rear because i had this rouge section of hair that just ran a muck . It would not just stay put, it was adventurous and wanted to do it's own thing. Just when I was about to wet my hair I remembered I had this pomade. It helped me to slick down my locks and continue with my day. What I need to mention is that once you rub this thick pomade between your fingers it can get oily so don't use too much. Later in the day at my work function I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror and yup rouge hair was sticking straight up saluting everyone in attendance and I was there thinking I looked cute. And not a soul said umm excuse me your hair is out of place, oh well I guess they got a good chuckle on me- whatever. I used this product to keep down my hair line and other hairs with no problem so I'm not sure why it didn't work at my event. I'm willing to guess that I was probably messing in my hair and ruffled it...maybe. Who knows but I still like Darcy's botanicals products and this 4 oz pomade will carry me through the rest of 2009 and I'm ok with that.

Check the price and ingredients below:
Ingredients: organic castor oil, organic coconut oil, brazilian passionfruit oil, organic shea butter, brazilian ucuuba fruit butter, beeswax, and fragrance. It costs $12.00.

What happened to the male group Brutha that had a show on BET? Did you get the album? I didn't get the album but it seems like after the show ended and there was no more family drama to display to the world, their fire fizzled. I heard nothing about their album sales but I guess they went double "wood" not platium since they seem to be completely off the scene now. They actually had some nice songs though. The music industry is not for the faint of heart. ......
In the Theaters
Are you going to see the latest movie spoof from the Wayans family? Those commercials just crack me up each time it airs. From the scene where Shawn Wayans comes to "pick up the baby" to the scene where you just see legs warming up and you discover the leotard clad body is a guy- HILARIOUS. This is one of those down right silly movies and I think I'm feeling that Dance Flick opens in theaters today!
Have a very Happy Friday everyone!!!

Get your protein on & Random Items

Although you are only looking at the conditioner bottle, this post is really about both the shampoo and conditioner. It just so happens that I chucked the shampoo bottle before taking a picture. This GPB shampoo and conditioner have received rave reviews from some people so I wanted to try it out. It had been sitting in a basket for months untouched, until I finally decided to rip myself away from my staples and give it a try.
Since this is an Aubrey Organics product, you may already know that the products are free of parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals and other bad ingredients. This particular product is a protein conditioner and shampoo, designed to strengthen your hair while giving you great shine. It has rosemary in it so it has more of a peppermint scent-- thought I should mention that in case that rocks your boat.
So I used the shampoo and my hair felt clean but not silky, like I would not attempt to run my comb through my hair after using that shampoo. HOWEVER if you notice, there is a special word on the bottle of the conditioner, it says it is a "BALANCING" conditioner. Indeed, it balanced out the feeling that I got from the shampoo and turned my hair into pieces of silk. As soon as I applied that conditioner to my hair I was running my fingers all through my tresses. When my hair finally air dried, it was shiny and it felt like my hair was made of titanium. I mean I was combing through my new growth like I was two weeks post :-). I will certainly buy this again and again. Just about all of the Aubrey shampoos and conditioners cost around $10 but I think this one was a little more.
Below you will see this product, which has nothing to do with beauty but I feel the need to talk about it. This Glade room fragrance smells great but only when your nose is practically pressed up against the jar. Gee Whiz can you get it together Glade, I am so not happy with this product since it didn't leave my room with its delicious scent.

Yummy Yum Yum

I just tried the Bold Apple tic tacs last week. DELICIOUS. They are so tasty that I went back to Duane Reade this week and just picked up a tray of it, 12 in total ( I had already taken a few out of the case by the time I had taken this pic).
The Fat Smash Diet is wonderful by the way!!!!

Talk to Me Baby & Don't KISS this Opportunity Goodbye

Now you will begin to see some of my spoils from The Makeup Show!
If you have been following this blog, you know that I have been on the hunt for the perfect shade of red. I need a shade of red that won't have kids thinking I'm going to perform at their party. My perfect red will not cause people have Homey the Clown or Ronald McDonald flashbacks from their childhood. Stila has come to the rescue with their talking, yes talking prefect red palette. OK here's how it works-you get a palette with a base and three shades of red. You then mix the darker and lighter reds until you find your perfect shade. I know I will stick mainly with the darker red and possibly use lighter shades for highlighting my pout.
At The Makeup Show prices are drastically reduced so this palette which usually costs around $40 cost me $15-$17 (no receipt so i don't exactly recall which price but I know it was either of these numbers). The kit also comes with a tiny manual and a lip brush.

When you press a button at the top of the palette you hear a woman's voice giving out makeup tips.
All in all I don't think I found my perfect red through this palette, but whatever it's still cute and I like that it talks, doesn't say all that much though, but cool nonetheless.
Side note- next I want to try Indian Wood from Nars because it is a darker red and that may be a great look for me...shall see soon.
Which company produces your perfect red?

(Pic courtesy of Kissable
Some of you have said in the past, and even recently that you want to try Kissable Couture but not at the usual $22 price tag. Well check out what KC has in store for you, if you use the code sb during checkout you get 45% off your total price. How awesome is that? My shopping cart that totalled over $100 last night was chopped down to around $55.00. This code is only applicable, I believe for the first 50 people, or maybe I just made that up but either way I know this promotion won't last long. So check it out nowwwww.
I tried it last night and the code still works...get your product(s) today.
You can buy as few or as many glosses as you want. Hey, you may even want to try the smooches set which will give you a few mini glosses in one kit.
The color Solstice in pictured above which I purchased last night. Pretty, right???

The Makeup Show -NYC

Endless - aisles - of MAKEUP, are you drooling at the mere thought of it all? I know I was just a "deer in headlights" enamored mess as I cascaded down each aisle allowing my eyes to dance across the vibrantly colored pigments and palettes. Workshops were being held in densely packed corners where each seat was filled with makeup artist thirsting for knowledge. The NYC makeup show is like nothing I have ever experienced, I was in a room bursting at the seams with people passionate about transformations, and makeup! The makeup looks ranged from the gory (tv makeup artist) to the carefully painted faces that donn runways and ballrooms. Companies I had never heard of perched beside companies whose popularity make it difficult for their products to remain on store shelves. A sea of hands moving almost in concert reaching, testing, rubbing, money being exchanged and products bagged - sensory overload!!!!
I will give you a thorough breakdown of some of the products I purchased in another post but today I will focus on one beautiful line and relish the moments I experienced at THE MAKEUP SHOW!
Oh So Kissable
Kissable Couture- soft sultry lips with just the right amount of color makes a happy Diva.
You have heard me talk about this line before but let me re-emphasize that this company DELIVERS when it comes to the non sticky silkiness of the formula and the elegant packaging perfect for gift giving! They have great new colors that really make the line POP! I think I need them all....What are you waiting for, you better order some before they are all gone!
I had encounters with some pleasant vendors but none quite measuring up to the woman who showcased the Kissable Couture Collection. Ms. T, the young flawlessly skinned woman, who challenged me to move beyond my comfort zone of nude colors and embrace more daring selections-thanks. I ended up purchasing Forest (at the top) and Tyler.

When you think of the makeup geniuses who wield kabuki brushes and mascara wands, I hope you think of celebrity makeup artist and entrepreneur Mr. AJ Crimson. He is co-owner of Kissable Couture along with Mrs. Keisha Whitaker.
When I meet people for the first time I immediately get a vibe, I think we all do, right? So after meeting AJ some words immediately rolled through my head, he is- gracious, witty, humble, and sincere. Even though he was feeling a little ill at the show, he was such a trooper and his exuberance is contagious.
He gave me his number 1 makeup tip-----DRUM ROLL PLEASE.......

Thanks AJ & Ms. T

Full Circle Moment
When I first began blogging toward the end of 2007, I reached out to Mischo Beauty to ask a question. After kindly responding to my email we shared a few more blog related chats via our respective comment boxes and over a year later it happened. After entering the contest to win tickets to The Makeup Show on Mischo's blog, I WON! So both the start and one of the highlights of my blogging career involves memories of Mischo indelibly sprinkled in my thoughts. Thanks Mischo.......My full circle moment.
Scroll through some other pics from the makeup show.
This was one of the workshops going on in the afternoon.

Naked Cosmetics- I will definitely be talking to you all about this line at some point this week.

If you went to the show what was your experience like?
To the person who entered my blog for a blog makeover- I WON- thanks- so you all will be seeing a beautiful blog face soon!

Body & Hair & on the Tube & The Winner IS

Oh how I have missed you all.
I know the picture above looks like some type of delicious slice of cake but it's soap; This creamy soap is Sultana Soap of Soap from Lush. The soap has dried cranberries, apricots and currents mixed in with oils to just delight your senses. This handmade creation starts at $5.95 per oz.
Of course like all Lush soaps, it is paraben free, vegan and all natural.

When Komaza ran a sale recently, I used that as an opportunity to shop until my fingers were tired. Before I knew it within a few clicks I had the Califia Care Conditioner in my basket. This $17.00 conditioner has algae extracts which is supposed to give you "ultimate slip". Who knew that this product would smell like sweet cake batter???
After using this conditioner my hair was soft and I did have slip but I don't know if I would go so far as to say it received ULTIMATE SLIP....I mean the slip was there but it wasn't outstanding but it was better than average.
I would get this again, I just wish one could order larger bottles...sigh.
Did you watch the Housewives Reunion?
I only caught part 2 so the shenanigans of part 1 remain to be seen by my eyes. What did you think of it all?
I like that Kelly was confronted on her behavior! I always thought she was pretending to be nice anyway.
The Countess was asked to remove herself from the high horse and later there was mention of her failing marriage. YIKES. The Countess didn't appreciate Crazy Eyes aka Ramona digging up personal issues. However Ramona only mentioned this issue after The Countess called her Crazy Eyes.
Alex was reserved and during one scene acted as the mediator between Bethenny and Kelly. From what I saw Jill made out pretty well on the show.
So did you watch?

College Hill

What did you think of the ending of Ribgate. Kate was certainly wrong to eat the ribs and if she wasn't confronted, I doubt she would have paid Kyle.
He was ready to throw down over some ribs, calling Allison an accessory to the
What were you watching this week?

Congrats to the woman who photographs beautifully!!!!

How do you do it? & On the Tube???

One makeup item that I have never owned is foundation (blush too but that's another story) because I never wear it. So I've never had to deal with figuring out which shades would work for me. When Sephora offered a foundation sample, I decided to grab it just to test it out. I ended up with Tarte's Health Couture Natural Anti-aging Foundation with "Wrinkle Rewind" Technology. This product is available in 12 shades but 4 were handed out in this sample. Starting from the top the first shade #02 is Ivory,#6 Warm Beige, #14 Natural, #20 Walnut. Some of you makeup pros will know immediately which color I should have selected but ummm I didn't lol. Obviously the first two from the top were thrown out so I worked with the bottom two to see which color would blend in best with my skin.
I have Natural on the left and Walnut on the right. Initially they both looked off to me so I had no idea how this would turn out. After my first stage of blending I got this:

Natural on the left made me look ASHY and Walnut on the right just didn't seem to match. Either way I felt like I would have to use this stuff over all of my exposed areas if I ever wanted to rick these colors. However I decided to continue the blending process so check out the final result.

Walnut if indeed the winner and I love the way it looks so smooth. If I had blended even more it would have probably looked better. Now here is the great news this foundation is SUPER LIGHT!! It really felt like I had nothing on my skin.

Product Info- Like many Tarte products this foundation is free of parabens, petro-chemicals,phthalates, sulfates, fragrance, dye and talc. Ok Tarte I'm scared of you with your natural goodness Find out more about this product here.

This foundation is also supposed to increase the elasticity of skin by 43% after 4 weeks, and reduce lines and wrinkes by 67% after 6 weeks. You should see an improvement in the moisture level in your skin by 52.8% in only 15 minutes after application. I can't really cosign on this talk of more moisture because my hands pretty much felt the same after 15 minutes.
This foundation costs $37.
So how do you determine your perfect shade? Do you just go through a bunch of trail and error?

**Edit- I forgot to mention that this product includes spf!!!**

On the Tube
I believe the Housewives reunion starts tonight or maybe I'm just making that up.

Changing the Process

Washing my face has always meant throwing water on my face first, then applying some product to my damp skin, working up a lather then rinsing away all unwanted particles. That's normal right?
Regardless of the many facial products that I would purchase, the actual process of face washing remained the same-until now.
During my first trip to Lush, I purchased the Ultra Bland cleanser, a product that claims to it can make your skin glow.
The Lush associate placed the smallest dollop of this cleanser on my hand and used a damp cotton ball to remove the product. However, when I went home and used this product before going to bed I had to scream from the mountain tops that I HATED this cleanser. Instead of revealing silky skin as the Lush associate did in the store hours prior, I had a grease filled face. Please look at my greasy forehead in the picture on the left. Yes, that is after washing off the product, or at least attempting to wash off the product. Water was literally rolling down my face and not able to penetrate the Vaseline like barrier this product created. The problem was that I was using my traditional face washing method to wash my face, but for this product I needed to change the process.
I looked at the website which recommends removing this product with a warm damp cloth and I remembered that the Lush associate didn't throw my hand under the running water to remove the product. The next day I put this ultra greasy product on my skin and rubbed it all around then used a warm damp cloth to remove the cleanser and WHOA HELLO Hydration! My skin was super soft, glowing and it felt moisturized. I literally didn't need any moisturizer so I totally skipped that and my skin wasn't upset about it. All I had to do was wash my face using this new process and it all worked out.

I will admit that I feel a little weird about changing my face washing routine, so I first use water to dampen my skin then I dry it off and apply the Ultra Gentle Cleanser. Over the weekend I said I wouldn't buy this product again but now I totally would, this is good stuff.
The only problem is that the product size is so small for $14.45, but at least you only need a little so this product should last for a while.
I must also mention that this product is also a great makeup remover!
This pic was taken after I used the soap.
From Lush I also purchased the creamy new Porridge soap and I love it. The oats gently exfoliate my skin as the creamy soap melts on my skin. Look at all the OATS!!!!!! This soap cost me about $8.44 but you can ask them to cut you a smaller slice if you wish.
You will have oats in your tub after you are done using this soap so be prepared.

All of the lush products I mentioned today are paraben free, all natural, 100% vegan, and not tested on animals.

Up Next

My next Lush purchase will include the facial soap Sweet Japanese Girl, which is supposed to clear clogged pores and keep blackheads as bay.

Long Lasting indeed

(Sorry I had to use my camera phone again)
I tried out the Maybelline SuperStay lip color and it stays on for hours. As usual with these lip colors, one side of the tube is the actual color and the other side is the gloss that goes over the lip color. This particular color is #380 Blackberry glaze- I really thought this color would show up darker but oh well. Although this product does work I will not be buying any more of the long lasting lip glosses/ lip sticks because of the lead found in those items. I have seen conflicting reports, some say that the amount of lead in lipsticks isn't nearly enough to harm people, while other reports make you want to run for the hills and leave all makeup behind. I'm sure lead can be found in more cosmetic items than we would care to know about but for now I will just start by giving the long lasting lip colors the boot. It could all end up being harmless but this is just my personal decision-this gloss does work though..LOL
The pic on the left was taken before I placed the gloss over the lip color. The pic on the right shows the shiny version of this gloss.
It will cost you about $7.99.
I think I'm heading to Lush today....anything I should look out for?
What are you getting into this weekend?

Pocket Friendly

After hearing a rave review of the Hollywood Beauty Olive Cholesterol, I knew I had to try it. This deep conditioning creme for damaged hair claims that it will provide "super shine & moisture." I allowed it to sit on my head for roughly 15 minutes and then I rinsed the thick creme out of my hair. My hair was soft and I did see a shine to it, although I will not say that it was "super shiny" because it was not. As a go to product when I don't want to spend too much money this is an item that I would consider purchasing again. If you can see the price tag on the side of the jar, this item costs $2.99. I've seen it at CVS and others stores too but it is never more than $3.99 for the 20 oz jar, which makes this an financially friendly find.
Now on to the ingredients...sigh- yes, it includes 2 parabens toward the end of the list. The good news is that some better ingredients fall at the top/middle of the list. Some of the better ingredients include nette, olive oil, calendula, aloe, sage and coconut oil.
This post would not be complete if I didn't tell you that this conditioner has a surprisingly sweet scent.
Have you tried this product?

Rub a Dub in the tub - Ribgate& Housewives

Dove has a Go Fresh campaign going on and I am seeing the commercials and ads everywhere. I tried the Nectarine and Ginger scented body wash and I really liked it. I don't usually like the scent of ginger but I couldn't smell it at all in this product so that was a plus for me. It's body soap so what more can I say? lol It got the job done and didn't leave me with dry skin.
I purchased my large size bottle at CVS for roughly $5.00 (it was on sale).

This lovely shoe was designed by Shäri Gray, the latest shoe making sensation on the rise. Check out her interview and more of the shoes on Clutch Mag.

If I have any shoe designers reading this blog, can you send me an email at thanks.

On the Tube

College Hill- BET actually named the episode RibGate.....
I think Brandon showed his true colors by not sticking to his work and accepting any wrath that would have come from Kay eating Kyle's ribs. By no means am I suggesting that he needed to accept responsibility but since he mentioned it and Kay is supposed to be his big time buddy from school, one would assume it wouldn't be a struggle for him to keep his word.
We all know that Kyle loves drama but Kay should not have started a battle if she didn't want to face any consequences.
Stacy and her boo...ummm ok next topic lol.
Tiffany seems to get lost in the shuffle on that show, but next week as ribgate continues, we will see how she handles her feelings for two men (her significant other and Chris).
Jill finally had her event and it went off without a hitch. I have to say I too would not have wanted to discuss any problems with Bethenny right before my big speech. Bethenny was annoying!
Isn't it funny how Kelly, in her own words, likes to be the person in the background and she doesn't want any attention yet she seemed pretty upset when Jill neglected to give her an award at the event...
I really don't like it when people try to fake being humble...please knock it off.
In a nutshell, the reunion looks like it will be entertaining. The Countess will address a problem she has with Kelly,Ramona and others will go at it.

My hair says- thanks DB

I try to bring a little variety to my posts by not talking about hair products only or a particular brand daily. However today is an exception because I need to talk with you about Darcy's botanicals again today. One of the friendliest bloggers around, Amina, put me on to Darcy's botanicals because she knows how much I adore hair products and all things natural/organic/vegan. I decided to try a few items but today I will talk about one that is quickly pushing ahead of the pack to become one of my hair favorites. When I saw the name Tucuma Butter Moisture Whip I was mainly hesitant because I had no idea what the whip was going to smell like. When I first sniffed the product, I didn't know exactly how to identify the scent. I later fell in love with this scent! Every time I get a whiff of my hair is smells so delicious and I wonder if others can smell it too.
The 4oz jar is filled with this custard-like hair moisturizer that smooths out any frizziness and softens the hair. I really enjoy using this product and I just ordered more last night!
Of course this is a natural, paraben free product.
Ingredients: Organic Aloe, Vegetable Glycerin, Vegetable Wax, Distilled Water, Organic Jojoba, Tucuma Butter, Avocado Oil, Organic Kalahari Melon Seed Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Cetyl Alcohol, Organic Castor Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Vitamin E, Rice Bran Oil, and a paraben-free preservative.
For $12.00 this is a great item, but I still wish she would offer larger sizes. Have you tried Darcy's Botanicals? If so, what did you get?
Any other fabulous natural companies that I should check out?
I should also mention that I love the way the DB owner ships the products. She puts dried rose petals in the box so you get your items shipped in a well scented box.
If you look on the left side of the box you will see a little note which tells you about the products you purchased. Well Done DB, well done!

Did you watch?
Gotti's Way
Last night began season two of Gotti's Way or Gotti's something. Uggggh!
If you watched last night was it me or did you get the impression Irv. Gotti's parents were telling Deb (Irv's wife) not to ask for a divorce even though Irv is a big time cheater....ummm helllllo. In my opinion it's like they were saying well you hae these kids and a nice house so overlook the blatant disrespect being shown to you. Unacceptable, especially since Angie (the daughter) is in the house watching all of this and learning from her mother. Hopefully Angie can break the cycle by never allowing herself to be disrespected in this manner.
College Hill
Did you see the preview for the College Hill episode tonight. I think there will be an argument over a spare rib...ok BET I've had
What will you be watching tonight?

I received my first order from Darcy's Botanicals and I immediately washed my hair to try the new products. I will give you detailed reviews on all of the products that I purchased but first I must talk about the free gift. The Juicy Peach Kernel Oil is a Super absorbent oil that can be used on your hair although it is mainly marketed as a body oil. When I tell you this is iithe least oily oil, I mean it. As I dabbed this kernel oil on my neck and on my wrists, it just seeped into my skin, leaving no oily residue behind. As the name suggests, this product smells like fresh plump ripe juicy peaches.
Now you may be wondering why I have the letters EFA in the title of my post so here is the EFA low down:
EFA stands for essential fatty acids, which is needed by your skin to remain healthy. What's important to note is that our bodies don't produce EFAs so we must get those needed fatty acids through the things we eat. EFAs can assist with the regulation of our cells which directly impacts healthy skin. Those who do not have high enough levels of EFAs have experienced problems with their skin such as eczema and psoriasis as well as hair loss!
Now while I pop a few Omega 6 and Omega 3 pills, I will be sure to rub this 42% EFA rich Peach Kernel Oil on my skin.
The 4oz bottle is sold for $12.00 and I am buying it for SURE.

Please Note-Those who eat fresh fish (not fried) keep it up because that is one way of getting in your EFA's. So for all of you non fish eaters, how are you loading up on your EFAs?

(sorry I had to use my camera phone again)

I named this post pot-o-color because that is exactly what you are looking at. These two Nars lacquers just give you color in a pot. This is not colored vaseline, it is straight COLOR. You can apply very little for a light hue or slap on a little more for vibrant lips. The color on the left is Diablo and on the right we have Caraibe. Caraibe is described as a golden nude shimmer)- it's like butterscotch to me. Diablo is described as apple red and I can't disagree. I can show you pics if you would like of the Caraibe but it really is a golden shimery color so the camera may not pick up the punch that this lip lacquer packs. The red one on the other hand...ok ok just scroll down- first you will see the very light application then the bold red lip.

Now for the darker application- It makes me feel like the Joker from Batman. Geesh I just can't rock red lips....this was quickly wiped off before heading out into the I will mix Diablo with browns to get the perfect hue.

My only negative comment is- Nars would it kill you to make this wonderful lacquer smell better than a tube of Elmers glue? Thanks PJD
Both lacquers cost $24.00 each.
Reader's Request
Now I will answer your question Mrs. Savvy, the wonder whiz financial blogger... Savvy wanted more of a comparison between Cliniques Black Honey and Sultry by Smashbox, so here it is in my latest edition of BATTLE IT OUT.
For new readers-Battle it out is the segment of this blog where two products with similar claims go head to head or tube to tube for my bucks!

I mentioned earlier this week that the color of a person's lip can have an impact on how well the color of some glosses appear on that person so I got a bright I decided to only paint HALF of my bottom lip with 1 coat of both sultry and then black honey. This would allow you to see the real difference between the color of my lips and the actual product. This is really no contest at all because Sultry gives you more color for your buck and the color that you see in the tube is MUCH closer to what you get as opposed to that little tease black
First up is sultry which has one coat on the left side ONLY of my bottom lip. You can also see how much darker it is than the natural color of my lips.
Now Black Honey show me what you've got.

Whomp Whomp, as you can see black honey fails to deliver in the color department. It is so light that you can barely see it on the left side of my bottom lip. However it is still moisturizing and silky soft as I mentioned in my review.
Sultry is the winner by way of KO!
