Dry Spell

Now that the weather is so warm we really need protect our hair. If you are a sun bunny you may notice that the such can dry out your hair, leaving it dull. Moisturize your hair properly before going out in the sun. I will soon complete a post on moisturizing your hair but for now I wanted to address the issue of dry dull hair.
You already know that I like Aveda especially the damage remedy line so I wanted to try the Aveda brilliant emollient finishing gloss. This gloss can be used on dry or wet hair.
The Good
This product is VERY light and not at all sticky so that I love. It also gives off great shine but the problem is that the shine does not last long enough. It is a paraben free product and it is made from rice bran oil, jojoba oil and soybean oil.
The Bad
The shine doesn't last as long as I would like. I tried applying the product to my wet hair and after it has air dried, the next day it is dull looking again. not completely dull but not as shiny as it should be.
When I applied the product to my dry hair the shininess lasted for an even shorter period.
Priced at $24.50 you will get 2.5 ounces.

Here is my hair before the Aveda gloss (left) and the after shot taken on the right side is the result of two pumps of the gloss.

How are you protecting your hair during these warm summer months?

oh my god! Great minds think alike!!
I was at Aveda this afternoon and eyeing this product. i've been meaning to try it for a while but yes i couldn't see much shine.
The lady was trying to sell it to me but i was like...i am not sure...
she told me in the sun, my hair is bling bling lol...

you also mentioned something key and now i understand why my hair is drier!! The culprit is the sun!!
last summer i purchased Aveda brilliant spray to protect against sun damage but it didn't do much..
someone told me that the color conserve sun protector is better...hmm....

i never thought about protecting my hair from sun damage until this summer. i was thinking "we protect our skin from sun damage, why not our hair". i want my hair to have a sheen to it without appearing or feeling oily.

Omgoodness I've been suffering with dry hair since we've entered the summer! It's like no matter how much I put in my hair its dull and dry at the end of the day. My hair is so not happy right now and I'm due for a touch-up. I've been using coconut oil in an attempt to keep the moisture..but alas I'm thinking I need something more lol

Thanks for this post! I've been wanting to vent about my dull hair..Btw Great pics!

I've been mindful of the hot sun on my hair so each night before wrapping my hair I put some of my oil mix in my hair. It's hard to keep the hair hydrated during the summer. These past few weeks for my washing routine I've been using moisture rich shampoos and conditions. MOP extreme moisture deep conditioner and cream of nature has a great deep conditioner that has jojoba oil and olive oil.

Fab review, sis. I protect my hair from the sun by wearing protective styles. My hair hasn't seen the sun in over a month. I keep it wrapped up in pretty wraps and scarves. But I'm really only doing that b/c I'm too lazy to do my hair.

Great post! I'm rarely in the sun, but lately I've been running outside. I usually wear a scarf and tie the rest of my hair up. I'm also wearing a sewn-in weave, so the majority of my hair is cornrowed underneath- but I did breakdown and relax the small portions of hair left out...

I've vowed not to use any heat on my hair left out (well- just once a week) and I've been using Giovanni's Vitapro Fusion leave-in hair treatment... so far, so good! :)

@Nywele I was looking at their new line for dry hair and I think I will get it. I just wish the brilliant gloss would have longer lasting shine.

I've used the humectant pomade from the Brilliant line. Just like the gloss, the shine didn't last.

Hey PJD....Stopping by to show some love....But I use simple avocado oil ..It has been tested and has been proven to give more sun protection than in other oil....And the shine last for days...
