Late in the game

I am late getting into the Aveda line but I tried it for the first time several weeks ago and I enjoyed the results. I purchased the Aveda Damage Remedy Reconstructing Conditioner, mainly because it has certified organic quinoa protein and barley. Although the scent leaves much to be desired, I felt like my hair came out just a wee bit stronger. Each time I used the product either I imagined it or my hair really felt stronger. I performed the strand test to verify what I was feeling.
The strand Test
You pull a strand of hair, (or just take a strand that is in your comb) and tug on the strand. If it breaks immediately this may be a sign that you hair is a little weak and it can use moisture. If you hair stretches and stretches and stretches, this may be a sign that you need protein to strengthen your hair. If your hair stretches a little before eventually breaking you may have a well balanced head of hair. Notice I use the word may when discussing the strand test because many other factors can come into play and have an impact on the strength of your hair.
After using this product a few times I felt like my hair was harder to break but not so hard that it needed moisture.
I will certainly buy this product again but I think it works best with continued use and I have too much of a product wondering eye to stay focused. If the scent pleased my nostrils I would stay put but since it doesn’t hit the spot, my search continues.
Which conditioners strengthen your hair?

I'm terrible in the hair shampoo/conditioner department. I just use whatever I find lying around the bathroom. The Biostrand line works well, but it's kind of hard to get.

Frugalista please dont tell me you use whatever is lying around, you are breaking my heart...lol Make sure you stock your house up with good products so that whatever you grab will be great for your hair. Well I can only imagine that if you have been doing this for years your hair must be in pretty great shape which is why you continue this practice...in that case keep doing what you are doing. :-)

Okay, now I'm your archives! Lol

I've never used this, but I've use the reconstructive treament. It is the only hair product I rave about! When my hair was shedding like crazy for no apparent eason I tried everything, that was the ONLY thing that ended it. That stuff saved my hair. Now that I'm natural I continue to use it and see results.

@ Brownee lol welcome to the archives. I just recently tried another product that I will write about, it is along the lines of this product but from another company.
I was going to order the aveda reconstructive treatment but with the product that I used recently I may not have to...stay tuned.

Order it? No Aveda stores/salons near you?

Looking forward to hearing about this other product though. I swear you should be beauty contributor to some magazine.

I just purchased that Cantu moisturizer everyone on forum is always raving about, can't wait to try it. Have you ever used?

And please recomend an inexpensive, sulfate-free moisturizing shampoo? I've been looking for one, that's why I was digging through the archives.

Sap Moss by Aveda is lovely, but I have to adjust to this new economy.

@Brownee, There is probably an Aveda salon somewhere I have just never actively searched for it. I order so many things online that it doesnt make a difference to me. Actually I did find a beauty supply store that has aveda products but after reading that article on fake products I'm nervous. Well since it worked for me once I guess I shouldnt be worried. Oh wait I did find a salon that was selling aveda product but they didn't have too many in stock anyway.
If you ever start a magazine, you know who can head up your beauty section :-)lol
From the Cantu company I have used the break cure and leave in conditioner. I did not post my reviews on them yet, basically because I forgot about them..lol Is this what you are talking about or something different?
OK an inexpensive moisturizing shampoo that is also sulfate free...well MOP has a line of sulfate free poos. You may want to try the MOP C-system hydrating shampoo for moisture. This is a sulfate free lovely shampoo. The price can range from 3.99 for 1.7 oz all the way up to 15.00 for larger bottles. It depends on what you conisder inexpensive. Now if I am talking about sulfate free cleansers I have to mention WEN..LOVE this stuff. The scent isn't the best the results are worth it. Here is one post that I did on Wen. http://productjunkiediva.blogspot.com/2008/02/my-new-hair.html
Although it costs $28.00 it may be worth it to you financially because it is basically your shampoo, conditioner, detangler, deep conditioner and leave in all in one!!!!
I have and use the Aveda Sap moss conditioner it is a nice product. I also like the ultra hydrating ojon products but I can't say that it is inexpensive and it is not sulfate free which is why I mainly focus on the conditioner from that line. If you tell me the price range you are looking for I may be able to give you better suggestions.

Cantu Shea Butter Oil Moisturizer is pretty good, not great. But for the price ($4), one can't complain. Very light-weight.

I'll purchase their Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream today.

Lol, I'm picking up some very bad ways hanging out around here.
