Tips from an Expert-Winterize Your Tresses

Hello Everyone- I am so happy to let you all know that Ms. Roslyn Baker, the hair expert from Soft & Beautiful, has so graciously offered her winter hair care tips. She even lists some of her Soft & Beautiful recommendations. Do you use anything from Soft & Beautiful? If so, what has been your experience?
Roslyn Baker explains, “During the colder weather, people tend to become less active, which means the scalp is prone to producing less sebum, an oil produced by glands that naturally protects and lubricates skin and hair. The end result is dry hair.”
Below are tips from Baker on how to moisturize and revitalize weathered strands while achieving dazzling hair for every occasion.
Nix The Alcohol
“Heavy alcohol-based products can further dry hair, making it prone to damage,” says Baker. Soft & Beautiful Oil Sheen & Conditioning Spray (SRP: $3.09) is specially formulated with jojoba and almond oils to infuse hair with moisture while keeping it nourished and styled. Baker adds, “This featherweight spray is the product of choice for women who wear soft, flowing styles. It doesn’t weigh hair down, and it smoothes frizzy fly-aways by adding a sheer layer of protection.”
Beauty Sleep
Get gorgeous locks overnight by simply switching your pillowcase. Sleeping on a cotton pillowcase can further dry out your hair during the cold season since the fabric absorbs hair’s natural oils, advises Baker. To maintain your luscious locks, sleep with a satin or silk pillowcase.
Condition Your Tresses
Soft & Beautiful Extra Light Crème Moisturizer (SRP: $3.19) is a must-have for the blistering winter, says Baker. The formula, with aloe vera, adds softness and manageability, nourishing the hair and soothing split ends. Baker explains, “This crème is perfect for finishing a style. When gathering hair into a ponytail or up-do, liberally apply on the hair at the nape of your neck and hairline, smoothing throughwith a small bristle brush.” To keep your hair shimmering through the seasons, Baker also advises usinga hot oil treatment once a month.
Another post is below-have a great day everyone!

That oil sheen must be what I need today with all these fly-aways. I feel like everyone is staring at say "Ohhh no, that's just too bad".

Do you administer the hot oil treatments yourself or are you suppose to get them done by professionals?

I used a sample of the Soft & Beautiful Extra Light Crème Moisturizer and it was pretty good. It's more like a moisturizing gel than a creme though (just FYI so you aren't surprised if/when you try it).

If your girl from Soft & Beautiful is taking questions, I'd love to know her recommendation for dry scalp. My hair is fine, but the winter has my scalf SUPER dry.

Also, PJD, can you answer this too. I know you have a ton of product knowledge.

Here here on the satin pillow case. I've been sleeping on these things for as long as I can remember!

I totally agree about the sleeping on a silk pillowcase recommendation I have used one since I was a kid I have never had a split end on my long, beautiful, dark auburn locks. It is also great for you skin. They say is is nature's gift to beauty and health. If you get one of the high-end silk pillowcases, they can be machine-washed and will last for many years. I found a company on-line that makes fabulous printed silk pillowcases - animal prints, pucci prints and butterflies. My mom also says "sleep on a silk pillowcase and you will never go back", She is right!
The place on line is silkndreams.com.

Mrs.YF I do my own hot oil treatments. I will just put some oils in a squeeze tube then put the tube under hot water, then on my scalp it goes.
T thanks for the info. I will pass this question on to the specialist. My suggestion for dry scalp- I had dry scalp at one point and as i began to wash my hair more frequently the problem seemed to go away. If you are looking for a specific items that you can spray on the scalp i do love my $9.00 Oyin juices and berries product, it is a moisturizer that is super light yet effective. Also frinking plenty of water always helps. I don't know if you put any products on your scalp currently but if you see flakes on your scalp it could possibly be product build up and not actually a flaky scalp. Oh another product that you may like is this aloe vera leave-in treatment from myhoneyshild. It is a great blend of natural products and it will not clog your pores so you may want to look into that.
B-I have yet to convert to the satin pillow cases but they sound divine.
Frugalista- thanks
Anonymous- Ok I'm listening to you and your mom I need those cases pronto! lol
