The Coil Review

The dreary NYC weather could not keep guests away from The Home, a night club that served as the venue for the EPIC launch of The Coil Review. The Coil Review is a site devoted to natural hair care. The talented master mind behind this unique site is Yardley Messeroux, Founder and Chief Editor. She has taken her time and energy to develop an all inclusive resource for those who rock their natural coils. This site will keep you up to date with the latest events, findings, styles, products and much more. Stay tuned as Yardley and her stellar team, interview experts and keeps you on the pulse of the natural hair care community. The Coil Review is unlike any hair site you have seen, it is a place where one can embrace the beauty of our natural textures along with the culture and lifestyle to which it is tied.
Don’t fret relaxed heads, because many of the remedies, products and tips on the site can be equally beneficial to the health of relaxed hair. Check out a few pictures from the official launch of The Coil Review and see which blogger came out to celebrate the launch.

Very chic video! For years I've thought about going natural. I've had several natural friends threaten to do an intervention. Every time I grow my roots out, I go back to the creamy fire cream. If I could go natural over night and still have hair length, that would be best. I have the patience of a gnat. One day, I'll try it.

After seeing Yardley Messeroux's wonderful hair I thought "wow maybe I could swing the natural look too!" But I know it would take way too long and the process seems to frustrate me. I mean I could just cut it all off but I'm afraid of having a short hair cut. But it was great seeing some people there with fabulous natural hair! Awesome Event!

When I first joined LCHF I thought about going natural but quickly remembered that that just is not me! I love to wear my hair straight and down my back and I do not want to spend hours flat ironing destroying my hair to get the desired effect.

Sounds like a great event! I have relaxed hair and I've actually thought about going natural several times. I guess I don't really know what's holding me back. Maybe one day! :-)

I actually just finishing a year of transitioning away from relaxers...and I'm about to go back. Most "natural" styles aren't my flavor and all the blowdrying/flat ironing required to get my hair straight isn't healthy. Not to mention, it's hot and humid here in GA and I try to exercise too.

Cool, slick video! Great website.

The transitioning processes is holding me back. An inch of new growth and I cry "uncle" and get a touch-up.

Just Wondering, you skin is GORGEOUS!

I think i like straight hair wayyy to much to go natural. I think whatever tickles your fancy is just fine! Yay to black hair whether it be permed, press or natural!

I love being natural and doubt that I will ever perm again but that's just me. I sho miss the wrap some days but a perm kept me back: afraid of the rain, afraid of pools, afraid to sweat. It was so frustrating! Black hair is seriously one of the best things about being Black. We can do whatever! Yardley is gorgeous!

I love my big curly-coily 'fro, twist outs, etc. I also love the option of flat ironing straight. My hair never had the body it has now when I relaxed, even at every 14 wks touch ups.

But I sincerely feel like, to each their own. I can't stand sistas being judged SOLELY by their hairstyles.

Divine, you can still wrap your hair whenever you feel like it.

@PBW- Thanks for the compliment! To be completely honest I must give most of the credit to my Dad. We share the same dark skin tone which helps to hide any blemishes! I have acne which I've been using prescribed medication for for many years. I use Rosac Cream which has sulfur in it! Sulfur ROCKs when it comes to blemishes (Read PJD review @ http://productjunkiediva.blogspot.com/2008/05/picture-perfect.html)

I also use Ambi Even& Clear Exfoliating Wash which I tried after PJD reviewed it (http://productjunkiediva.blogspot.com/2008/02/im-just-that-kind-of-gal.html)

Those three things really does the trick for keeping my skin clear. Trust me it wasn't always that way lol

@Frugalista thanks and I am LOL @ creamy fire cream.
@Just wondering , yes it was a fab event. Also I think you can swing the natural look. I am cheering you on!
@Eliana isn't it beautiful that we have the power to decide what we want to do individually....and your hair is lovely by the way.
@BGG I have been there also.
@Savvy I have seen some really pretty natural styles that don't require heat. Maybe the Coil Review will feature some styles that you would be interested in wearing. Well whatever you decide to do I am sure you will look fabulous.
@Antithesis I have told you before how much I like your texture.
@PBW lol @ I cry "uncle".
@DE thanks and I agree!
@Bellefille i agree yay to black hair....
@DivineBlackness you rock oyur natural hair beautifully.
@Brownee I agree with your comment I can't stand sistas being judged SOLELY by their hairstyles. - and I am sure you know that can go either way...how ridiculous. India Arie put it best when she said "I am not my hair".
thanks ladies.

I have been relaxer free for a little over six years. I love the versatility of it. I love being able to walk in the rain and not worry about losing my hair style. I love being able to just wake up and go. I can keep a style for weeks without losing the style.

The one thing I find lacking is just not being able to find a "miracle" product that helps me maintain my moisture. And I don't like having to order all of my products online. Most commercial products have ingredients in them that I would rather stay away from.

@Jewells six years, great job. Your hair looks wonderful so you are doing a nice job.
Regarding your issue with moisture I may have a solution. I will post it this week.
Also if you watched the video of the woman on the Coil review site she did mention drinking more water etc.
THanks for checking in.

I have been natural for about 10 years now, and I love that there are a variety of things that I can do. The only thing that makes me crazy is that I have never found a product that makes my hair feel silky. I'm not saying straight, because I like my curly, but when I want to wear it down and curly, it never works, no matter what I put in it. Does anyone else have this problem?

Product Junkie Diva have you ever tried Carol's Daughter hair products? I wonder about those, but I've never heard anyone rave about it.

@jacqui you say you have never found a product that makes your hair feel silky...what have you used? Yes I have used carols daughter products, I have even blogged about them, or at least two of them, you can check the hair section for the review. I like that her products have good ingredients but her products also have a pretty strong odor. I used the hair milk and that was nice but I ended up finding products that worked better for me. I tried quite a few things from the line, are you interested in anything specific?
